New beginnings, in three beats:

1: December 1, 2024:

Last year, I joined Berkeley Executive Coaching Institute's first ever Tokyo cohort and poured into a deeply personal, transformative journey as a coach. On the last day of the program, we wrote a letter to ourselves one year in the future.  I’ve often found this exercise fleeting in inspiration, but this time added a dimension from Benjamin Zander and Rosamund Stone Zander’s The Art of Possibility. We reflected on what it could look like to live into aspiration, not up to expectation. The prompt was short and weighty: give yourself an A. You’ve already done the thing, ticked off the goals, tackled the big and new, slayed the monster, made the little kid in you proud. You’ve earned the A. Where are you? What are you feeling and doing? Who are you?

I scurried outside to a rooftop table overlooking Tokyo’s brightly lit heart, took in a deep breath, and envisioned life back on Brooklyn concrete. My pen curved forward and fast. I placed the letter in my journal, its pages closing like two hands in prayer, keeping my manifestation tender and alive.

2: December 1, 2025:

Dear Andrew,

I am giving myself an A, because I’m free. I’m back to the pieces of myself that I’ve long neglected. I’m kinder to myself. Even now, on a crisp December morning, I’m walking the streets of New York with a hot tea in hand, a bounce in my step, a curve in my smile, an expansiveness in my chest. I am centered. Grounded. Kicking a**, getting sh*t done. Helping others do the same in their own creative, authentic, generative ways. There’s a lot of play in my life. Gratitude. Movement. Direction. Rest. Laughter. Connection. There are delicious surprises all around me. Once I finish my tea, I’m off to whatever is next.

It’s great to see you again, Andrew. Welcome back - it’s like you never fully left.

Love, A

3: Today:

A big part of my new chapter is centered around coaching, working with individuals and teams to unlock where they are, where they want to go, and how they can get there. Whether you’re feeling stressed, uncertain, overwhelmed, or burned out, coaching can be a profound gift to get unstuck and get grooving.

OFFER: I’m offering discounted coaching packages to help you start 2025 with you at the center of your own journey. A handout in the comments shares more about the things you can focus on, the vibes you can expect, and the experiences I bring as a coach.

ASK: It takes a circle of humans to do magic together, so I’d love if…

  • I can connect with you or anyone you know who might be interested in this kind of support

  • You can share this opportunity with others or connect me with a couple of folks in your world

  • We use this post to reconnect over tea, coffee, and/or Zoom (let’s do it!)

P.S. The Giving Yourself an A exercise is just one of many experiences we can do together through coaching.  Let’s roll up our sleeves and play! 🙂
